Naphthols

  • Napthol are insoluble azo dyes applied to cellulosic fibres by impregnation in a Napthol solution and subsequent coupling with a colour salt. All cellulosic fibres such as cotton, linen, jute, hemp, as well as silk and rayon may be dyed or printed with Napthol.

This method of dyeing yields a wide range of shades covering deep yellow, orange, scarlet, red, maroon, violet, brown navy and black the shades are brilliant and in general possess excellent fastness to washing, alkalis, acids and chlorine. Many combinations have very good fastness to light. The shades are also resistant to mercerizing, scrooping and cross dyeing in boiling acid solutions. However dyeing based on Napthol AS-G combinations and a few of the blue, violet, black and brown dyeings are also fast to peroxide bleach. Napthol - Fast Base Dyeing are also very widely used for African Print / Wax Print.

  • Availability

Napthol are available in the Powder form. We are also producing Napthol in the Liquid form. Normally, packing of Napthol is in 25 kgs brand new HDPE bags with inside double liner. We have also introduced special 1kg/2kg packing for cottage industries especially for tie and dye users. We can also provide packing in Plastic drums / Iron drums / Fibre drums as per our customer's requirements.

  • Specialized Highly Purified Napthols for Pigments

We are also having a complete range of Napthol as mentioned above in the most purified Form. These Napthol are produced in Glass-Line vessels, so that contents of the metal are almost nil. They have an excellent solubility and minimum insolubles. These highly purified Napthol are re-commended for the production of Pigments.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Naphthols (also spelled Napthols) are azoic coupling components used in the production of insoluble azo colours directly on the fibre. The fabric is first padded or impregnated in a Naphthol solution (naptholation), and then treated with a diazotised Fast Color Base or Fast Color Salt to develop the colour through a coupling reaction. This process is known as Naphthol dyeing or azoic dyeing and produces deep, brilliant shades on cotton and other cellulosic fibres.
Naphthol dyeing produces a wide spectrum of shades including deep yellows, oranges, scarlets, reds, maroons, violets, browns, navy, and black. The shades are brilliant, and in combination with different Fast Bases or Fast Salts, many unique colour effects can be achieved that are not possible with other dyestuff classes. The process is particularly popular for African Print and Wax Print fabrics.
Naphthol dyes offer excellent fastness to washing, alkalis, acids, and chlorine. Light fastness is generally very good — rated 6–7, nearly comparable to Vat Dyes. Many combinations also resist mercerizing, scrooping, and cross dyeing in boiling acid solutions, making them highly durable for garments and furnishing fabrics.
Standard Naphthols are produced for textile dyeing applications and have normal purity levels. Purified or high-purity Naphthols are manufactured for use as intermediates in organic pigment production. These are produced in glass-lined vessels to minimise metal contamination, have higher solubility, and near-zero insoluble content — properties critical for producing consistent, high-quality organic pigments.
India has a long history of Naphthol manufacturing, with the product being one of the foundational chemicals of the Indian dye industry. Vipul Organics Ltd. is one of India's oldest and most experienced Naphthol manufacturers and suppliers, with roots going back to 1968. Their SunThol® range covers 18+ grades including Naphthol ASG, ASITR, ASIRG, ASLC, ASBR, ASOL, ASD, and more — available in both standard and highly purified grades, in powder, liquid, and custom packing formats.
